Training Classes

Classes are limited in size so call as soon as possible to hold a spot. 
Some classes are offered by appointment only and are so noted.  Thank you.

Open to the public, training at PEGASYS is provided to help you get your message out!

Basic Training

Orientation and Intro to Camera - 1 session, 2-3 hours -
Introduces attendees to public access television. Covers the PEGASYS rules and regulations. Intro to PD100 Camera, Basic Storyboarding, and tripod use. Prerequisite for all additional classes.

Basic Camera and Basic Editing - 1 session, 2-3 hours -
Will follow class #101. Shows members how to operate cameras. Deals with the basics of making good video. Covers equipment checkout, and basic machine editing.

Basic Lighting/Audio/Studio - 1 session, 2-3 hours -
Will follow class #102. Introduces the basic principles of good lighting and audio, as well as basic studio productions. Includes review of character generation.


After becoming a member and completing the above three classes, the volunteer must assist a staff member with a truck production to complete their training. Only after they have completed the truck course may a new member check out equipment.

Basic Truck Production - 1 session approximately three hours -
Offered 4 times per month (one evening) - Will familiarize volunteers with the operation of the mobile production truck. Must demonstrate competence at end of class. This is the final prerequisite to certify as a community producer.

Advanced Training
 

Advanced Non-Linear Editing - Initial individual session (4 hours)
Offered anytime by appointment only. Must have original footage to edit. Uses the Avid Non-Linear system.

Field Production - One session as needed -
Review of basic production classes, then goes more in-depth into camera, lighting, and audio practices. Also covers 2-camera field production. Must demonstrate competence at end of class. Prerequisite: Basic Training Classes

Studio Production - Offered upon request -
Review of basic studio production class but concentrates on the video switcher. Also covers the responsibilities of the technical director. Must demonstrate competence at end of class. Must complete minimum of one studio-produced program as director. Prerequisite: Basic Training Classes

Program Planning - Offered upon request -
Will cover all that goes into planning a field, studio or truck production, including script-writing. Will also review PEGASYS, Inc.’s requirements for show scheduling, as well as all pertinent forms used in the planning and production processes. Prerequisite: Basic Training Classes

Hosting - 1 session upon request -
Covers Interview techniques, make-up, wardrobe, teleprompter. Prerequisite: Basic Training Classes

Floor Directing - 1 session upon request -
Taking commands from the technical director, using hand signals, and cuing talent. Prerequisite: Basic Training Classes
